Family Worship (Aug 30)
A Family that Calls on the Lord
Have you ever looked at a family tree? It starts with parents and then branches out to children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Genesis 4 shows us two family lines. Cain’s family built cities, raised animals, made music, and created tools. But sin and violence were also spreading.
Then we meet Seth’s family. The Bible tells us that during their time, people began to “call on the name of the LORD.” The world was becoming darker, but God had not forgotten his people or his promise. He was working through generations until one day Jesus would come to save sinners from the darkness.
Read Genesis 4:16-26.

Family Activity: Two Family Trees
Draw Adam and Eve at the top of a large sheet of paper, with separate branches for Cain and Seth. Read Genesis 4:16–26 and race to add each person to the correct branch. Draw small pictures beside their names showing what the passage tells us about them.
Circle Genesis 4:26 on Seth’s branch. Then extend that branch down the page and write “JESUS,” remembering that God kept his promise and eventually sent Jesus to save sinners.
Memory Work:
New City Catechism
35. Since we are redeemed by grace alone, through faith alone, where does this faith come from?
All the gifts we receive from Christ we receive through the Holy Spirit, including faith itself.
Memory Verse
Deuteronomy 31:8
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Talk About It
- What good things did Cain’s family accomplish, and what signs show that sin was also spreading?
- What do you think it means that people began to “call on the name of the LORD”?
- How can our family be people who call on the Lord and trust Jesus in a world where we still see sin and brokenness?
