Family Worship (Sept 27)

Count the Stars

Have you ever been promised something and wondered when it was finally going to happen? Maybe your family planned a vacation months away, or your parents promised something special after you finished a big job. Waiting can be hard! Sometimes we start wondering, “Is this really going to happen?” Abram knew that feeling. God had promised to give him a huge family, but Abram was getting older and still had no children. He could not figure out how God’s promise could possibly come true. So God took Abram outside and told him to look up. The sky was filled with more stars than Abram could count. God said his family would become just as numerous. Abram did not know how God would do it, but he believed God. We can trust God too. We don’t have to figure everything out. Most importantly, God promised to send a Savior, and he kept that promise by sending Jesus.

Read Genesis 15:1-6

Discussion Questions
  1. Why was Abram having trouble believing that God’s promise would come true?
  2. What did God show Abram to help him remember his promise?
  3. What is something you have a hard time trusting God with right now?

Activity
Go outside together after dark and try to count the stars. Take turns naming promises God has made in the Bible. After each promise, everyone responds, “We can trust the Lord!” End by thanking God for keeping his greatest promise by sending Jesus.
