Created for Connection

Imagine a Lego set. Each piece is unique in shape and color, but they all fit together to build something amazing. Just like a Lego set, God made us to be different but connected. He designed us to have special relationships with Him and with each other. Sometimes, when you play with Legos, you build towers, cars, or castles. These creations come to life when the pieces are snapped together. In the same way, our lives come to life when we connect with God and the people around us.

In the beginning, God created everything—and the best part came when He made people. He didn't just speak us into being like everything else; He made us special by creating us in His own image. This means we can love, think, and create just like God does. Today, let’s discover how God made us to be connected to Him and to one another, just like those Lego pieces.

Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV)
"Then God said, 'Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.' So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

Discussion Questions
  1. What does it mean when God says He made us in His image? How does that make you feel special?
  2. Why do you think God wants us to have relationships with Him and other people?
  3. Can you think of ways we can become closer to God and help others feel loved too?

Activity
Gather your family and some LEGO or building blocks. Work together to build something that represents your family. It could be a house, a car, or anything you dream up! As you build, take turns sharing one thing you love about each family member. Talk about how each person's unique qualities are important and how your family grows stronger when you work together. Once you're finished, admire your creation and thank God for making each of you special and connected.

Prayer
Dear God, thank You for making us in Your image and for creating us to be connected to You and each other. Help us to know You more and to show Your love to those around us. Let our family work together like those pieces in our activity, building something beautiful for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Memory Work

New City Catechism
23. Why must the Redeemer be truly God?
That because of his divine nature his obedience and suffering would be perfect and effective; and also that he would be able to bear the righteous anger of God against sin and yet overcome death.

Memory Verse
John 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
