Spread the Word

Spread the Good News about Jesus
Have you ever been part of a team, like in a game of telephone or a relay race? In both, everyone has an important role to play. Imagine if one person stopped in the middle of the game—the message wouldn’t get passed, or the baton wouldn’t reach the finish line! In today’s story from the Bible, Jesus gives his followers a special job to spread the good news about Him to the whole world. But just like in a game, they needed to be ready and wait for the right moment—and the right power—to start.

Acts 1:8-11 (NIV)
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

Discussion Questions
  • What special job did Jesus give to his followers?
  • What power did Jesus promise before they started their mission?
  • Why do you think the disciples were staring into the sky after Jesus left?
  • How can we be witnesses for Jesus in our family, school, or neighborhood?
  • What does it mean to trust the Holy Spirit to help us share about Jesus?

Activity: Mission Relay!
Create a fun relay race in your home or yard. Write simple messages about Jesus (like “Jesus loves you” or “God forgives”) on index cards. Set up stations, and at each station, a family member must pass the card (like a baton) and say the message out loud before running to the next person. At the end, talk about how sharing the message felt and how we can share Jesus’ message in real life!

Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for giving us the job of sharing Your love with others. Help us to be brave and trust the Holy Spirit to guide us. Teach us not to stand still in our faith but to move forward, telling others about Your life, death, and resurrection. Bless our family as we work together to spread Your Word. Amen.
