The Worst Day Ever, or Maybe Not?

Have you ever felt like having the worst day ever? Imagine planning a fun day at a theme park like Disney World, packed with exciting rides, tasty treats, and meeting your favorite characters. But what if a heavy rainstorm suddenly swoops in, soaking everything and making rides close? It feels disappointing, right? Our sermon had a similar story about the Apostle Paul, who faced shipwrecks, storms, and even a sneaky snake! Paul could have thought he was having the worst day ever, but instead, he saw it as an amazing opportunity to trust God and help others feel hopeful. Like when your day at the theme park ends with a bright rainbow and hugs from your family, God can turn the stormy days in our lives into something joyful and magical. Let’s see how Paul did this with God’s help and think about how we can do the same!

Acts 28:30-31 (NIV)
"For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!"

Discussion Questions
1. Why do you think Paul was able to tell others about Jesus even when things seemed so difficult for him?
2. Can you think of a time when something seemed bad at first but turned out to be good in the end? How do you think God might have been involved?
3. What are some ways we can talk about Jesus even when we have hard days?

Activity
**Stormy Shipwreck Adventure**
Gather your family and build a fort out of chairs, pillows, and blankets to represent a "ship." Pretend you're on a voyage like Paul’s. Create scenarios about facing a storm, finding an island, and meeting new friends, just like Paul did on Malta. Have each family member share a message of hope or a fun fact about Jesus during the adventure. Talk about how you can look for the “rainbow” in stormy situations, showing faith in God’s plan. If you can, make or draw a rainbow together and think about ways God might bring those bright spots into your lives!

Prayer
Dear God, thank You for loving us and turning even our stormy days into moments of joy and hope. Help us to trust You, like Paul did, and to share your love and peace with others, no matter what happens. Teach us to see the rainbows in our lives and to remember that You are with us through every adventure. Amen.

Memory Work

New City Catechism
22. Why must the Redeemer be truly human?
That in human nature he might on our behalf perfectly obey the whole law and suffer the punishment for human sin; and also that he might sympathize with our weaknesses.

Memory Verse
John 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
