Family Worship (Jan 12)
Have you ever heard of a superhero who didn’t have any superpowers? Iron Man might seem like an ordinary person, but he has something amazing—a device called the Arc Reactor. It powers his suit, saves his life, and helps him do incredible things. In today’s devotional, we’re going to learn about a power even greater than Iron Man’s Arc Reactor—the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel saves us and gives us the power to live a new life for God.
Romans 1:16–17 (NIV):
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’”
Discussion Questions:
Activity: “Gospel Power Craft”
Create a “Power Pack” craft to help everyone remember the power of the gospel.
Prayer
Dear God, thank You for the gospel, which is Your power to save us. Help us to trust You every day and to share the good news with others boldly. Thank You for showing us Your love and giving us the strength to live for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Memory Work
New City Catechism:
1. What is our only hope in life and death?
That we are not our own but belong to God.
2. What is God?
God is the Creator of everyone and everything.
Psalm 145:8–9 (ESV)
The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.
- What does Paul say about the gospel in this passage?
- Why do you think Paul calls the gospel “the power of God”?
- What do you think it means to be saved by faith?
- How can we share the gospel with others without being ashamed?
- What are some ways we can remind ourselves to trust God every day?
Activity: “Gospel Power Craft”
Create a “Power Pack” craft to help everyone remember the power of the gospel.
- Materials: Index cards, markers, tape, and a small box or container (like an empty tissue box).
- On each index card, write one way the gospel changes lives (e.g., “The gospel gives us hope,” “The gospel shows us God’s love”).
- Decorate the box or container as your “Gospel Power Pack.”
- Each family member takes turns drawing a card and sharing how that truth can encourage them or someone else this week.
